About Us
Duren's Rush Creek Produce is a high tunnel hydroponic operation (30 by 96 feet) in Rush Creek, Adin, CA.

Meet Danny Duren, owner of Rush Creek Produce, LLC! Danny's operation is a hydroponic (meaning plants receive their nutrients via water rather than soil) high tunnel. Danny first moved to Modoc County eight years ago. An army veteran, Danny has a long history of farming experiences, dating back to helping his grandparents with grape growing and harvesting as a child. To the questions of "Why hydro?" Danny shared that he believes in its water conserving practices, and that hydro was also a good solution to his extremely rocky, hard to work soil.

Danny began his current Adin high tunnel hydroponic operation in January of 2021. Like most farmers, Danny has learned much through trial and error experiences this past year. Danny is in the process of transitioning from heating his high tunnel with propane, to a Wood pellet Biomass furnace. In speaking with Danny, hydroponic operations have a unique set of variables to manage (e.g. fungi and mildews), in some ways different from those encountered when growing directly into the soil. For more information about Danny's practices, please see Duren's Rush Creek Produce producer profile on the Hub's website. Currently Danny is using conventional fertilizer to transport nutrients to plant roots, and although an investment, is willing to transition to organic nutrients if customer feedback indicates demand.

Important to note, Danny exclusively uses seeds from Johnny's Selected Seeds and True Leaf Market. In addition to both of these seed companies, Danny is committed to non-GMO varieties.

Danny's produce may look a little different from other items you order through the Hub. Many of Danny's vegetables will come with their roots intact sold as Living .

Danny shared his goals for his operation include providing his customers with top-quality produce at an affordable price.

Practices
Duren's Rush Creek Produce uses fertilizer (water nutrients) from AMHYDRO Lettuce Formula .Food Grade Phosphoric acid is used to bring down the natural PH of the operation's well water. CEASE, a product by Bio-Tech, which is Organic Materials Institute (OMRI) approved is used to control fugus and powdery mildew. Beneficial insects, such as lace wing, lady bugs and predator wasps are used to treat aphid populations. Currently, Duren's Rush Creeks Produce is heated during the cold season, using propane, but is in the process of transitioning to a Wood Pellet Biomass furnace.

Duren's Produce grows its microgreens under lights, using Coco-Coir, the fiber around the husk of coconuts as the medium for nutrients/growth. A dilution of hydrogen peroxide is misted over crop to help removed seeds shells without damaging sprouts.
