Wonderstone Gifts produces food on a small farm in Cedarville, where our family lives and works on just under 1.5 acres of land adjacent to Garfield Gardens. We maintain five separately fenced gardens and an orchard. We have been developing our gardens every year for over 16 years! Our work is truly a family effort. David combines his experience as a Humboldt County Master Gardener with the wisdom and expertise of Terry and Joyce Miller of Garfield Gardens. We constantly work to improve our soil by pulling rocks and adding organic material. Even as we seek to expand the area of our land under cultivation every year by breaking new ground and adding to the rock pile, we also love to maintain our wild places where the quail and deer frequently roam.

Our gardens produce a number of cool-season and warm-season crops. We use trellising and staking in our limited spaces to maximize our yields. We implement succession planting and companion planting for crops such as beets, carrots, and radishes. We understand the natural process of soil formation and work to develop ideal physical and chemical properties in each of our gardens through the use of backyard composting, natural fertilizers and amendments, minimum tillage, and conservative irrigation combined with mulching. Our entire operation uses cultural practices, biological controls, and mechanical barriers to safely and effectively manage garden pests without the use of pesticides.
